The Need to Get to Know Colleagues
It is unlikely, unless a workplace has just opened that everybody that works there knows everybody else. Depending on the size of a workplace, and how many workers there are, it can difficult for everyone to know each and every single one of their colleagues.
The bigger the workforce the more likely it is that people work in different departments. At best they only get to know everybody else in their particular department.
However it should be a part of management strategy that workers know as many colleagues as possible outside their immediate department or team. Knowing colleagues links a face to the person at the other end of the phone, or their emails.
Team Building – why one team works better than us vs them
It is easy to find more info about what team building is, and why it is important. Team building is simply having all the workers and managers in a workplace working together. The idea is simple yet not always easy to achieve. It is considered vital by business experts.
That is why there are so many articles, books, blogs and podcasts about it. People it seems find it easier to feel part of smaller teams. Their teams are the people they are nearest when at the workplace. It is easy to think of colleagues at the other end of the office as being them instead of being part of us.
Things to do to achieve Team Building
Team building has the aim of changing us and them to just us, a single team with different parts. Efforts to build a team or corporate spirit can be focused solely around, yet tend to have social elements too. It can with something as simple as having regular whole team meetings. Depending on the size of the workforce that could be daily, weekly or monthly. Such meetings work best if they are always held.
Another one to team build is to close the workplace for a few hours, or a day and take everyone to some place else. Whether that is for bowling, paintballing, or being pampered at a spa it needs to relax everyone. Some firms have team building days when everyone does activities to assist local charities. Other popular ideas include dress down days when everyone wears casual clothes instead of uniforms or business dress.
